The Umbrella Academy season 3 had yet another bombshell ending, but how Allison's story arc concluded was by far the most shocking. Reginald Hargreeves, it turns out, is a menace in every possible timeline, who only seeks to exploit the Umbrellas' and the Sparrows' powers. In The Umbrella Academy season 3, Reginald Hargreeves goes further than ever, by draining his children's powers to power a machine to change the timeline according to his will. Even more shocking than that, was Allison striking a deal with him that left her immune to this torment.
Season 3 sees the Umbrellas in another new timeline; one where they were never born. Therefore, heartbreakingly, Allison's daughter Claire doesn't exist either. This, combined with grieving the loss of the man she married in The Umbrella Academy season 2, Raymond, was too much to bear for her, and she went on a rampant mission to get her family back, with little care for anyone else. Allison, once sweet, calm, and understanding, became increasingly bitter, and what makes this character arc worse was her ending.
Despite how hateful and downright unforgivable Allison was The Umbrella Academy season 3, she was the only character (apart from Reginald, by his own devices) to get a happy ending. The season 3 finale concludes by showing Allison returning to her large, picturesque house, to find her daughter Claire alive and well. More than this, Raymond has somehow made his way into this new The Umbrella Academy season 3 timeline, reuniting all the lost loves of her life, therefore giving Allison the ultimate reward for her actions.
Most strange about the scene was the fact that it was shown in an oddly sympathetic light. The music swells over Allison and Claire's reunion, and the appearance of Raymond is the icing on the cake for her to settle down into a happy life. Yet, this happy ending for Allison shockingly comes after a plethora of ill deeds. She kills Harlan in cold blood, tells Viktor that they should have left him in the basement, and in one of The Umbrella Academy's most horrifying scenes, Allison uses her powers to sexually assault Luther. A fit of dark jealousy comes over her once she sees that Luther has finally moved on from her, even though she's still desperately in love with Raymond. She never apologizes to Luther, and proceeds to act out at Luther and Sloane's wedding.
Her business with their abusive father furthers how far she was willing to go this season, leaving her brothers to fend for themselves. In fact, it is likely her partnership that makes Reginald feel he has enough ammunition and cover to kill Luther. She watches as her family are drained of their powers, and when she finally steps in to help, they all beg her not to push the button as they don't know what it will do. Yet, her self-centeredness comes into play again when she pushes it anyway, only thinking about her deal with the dastardly alien Reginald Hargreeves.
Allison being the lone receiver of a happy ending in The Umbrella Academy season 3 finale is convoluted, and in many ways cruel. If it were a competition of who deserved happiness most this season, the choice would likely be Luther. He was assaulted, murdered, and then brought back to life in a timeline where his wife is gone. Having Allison as the villain, who is then rewarded for her crimes, is one of the most shocking parts of The Umbrella Academy season 3.
But I'm not sure if it is a happy ending. Can you live your whole life with powers and then have that removed and feel OK? I think the challenge for next season is: What will it be like for them to sort of have this sort of quote-unquote appendage cut off them and try to be normal? I don't know if it's necessarily a good thing or a bad thing for them. And I think that's something we'll deal with in Season 4. I mean, obviously, that's a spoiler.

The new season picks back up with Sergeant Catherine Cawood as she's about to retire from the police force, but before she can, she starts investigating a gangland murder that leads her right back to Royce.
While Royce is still serving time in prison following the events of season 1, it doesn't stop him from having an influence on the outside world, with the criminal's new long-haired look being linked to a potential plotline, according to Norton.
In Season 3 of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, Sir Reginald Hargreeves proved to be at his most conniving. He manipulated not just the Sparrows, but the Umbrellas as well, but this time he used Allison's grief and the need to be with her beloved Ray and daughter, Claire. It led to the remnants from both teams traveling to the dark mirror of the Hotel Obsidian, where Reg conjured a sinister plan to reset reality. On one hand, it'd stop the apocalypse that happened in the new timeline where both teams existed. Conversely, Five and co. couldn't trust the sacrifices they sensed would be needed for the scheme to work. Ultimately, they all plotted a course together, unwittingly creating a bittersweet ending for both parties.
Seven of the heroic alliance stood over stars on the ground, not realizing they'd be used like batteries. Reg then activated a computer to drain their essence and reboot reality. Allison was angry, though, because while she'd get her family back, she didn't like seeing her siblings suffer. She broke the pact with Reg and killed him, revealing his robotic-alien side. However, she still pushed the reset switch, with Viktor allowing her to do so. While the others disapproved, Viktor knew what loss was like after the deaths of Harlan and Sissy, so he wanted Allison to get a happy ending.
The series cut to Allison finally reuniting with Claire and Ray in the new reality. Seeing as Ray wasn't Claire's dad like he was from the past, clearly someone -- or something -- rewrote history. She couldn't care less, however, as she had her dream home at last, but it wasn't so happy for the others. Luther was back, but Sloane didn't return. It left him running off to find her. Five also realized they lost their powers after the reset.
Klaus was annoyed too, but Diego and Lila seemed content. She was pregnant, so they looked forward to a normal life as a family, especially after spending time with Stanley, who showed them what raising a kid would be like at the Obsidian. Viktor was the last to leave the grounds where the elevator dropped them off -- the location being that of the hotel. He realized, from the monument set up, Reg once more had his ego intact. There was a statue to him, dedicated on October 1, 1989, which was the kids' birthdays, so clearly, he made the public think he saved them all once more.
The season ended with a shot of Reg in what seems to be a modern spin on his empire -- Hargreeves Enterprises. There he was spotted with his dead wife, Abigail, who's back to life, suggesting his plan all along was to use the kids to resurrect her. He had a shady smile on his face, indicating he's well and truly the puppet master of this new world. 041b061a72
